Enjoy the Outdoors

In Princeton, there’s always something to do outdoors. From Lake Lavon to local parks, residents enjoy a variety of activities ranging from swimming, boating, and hiking to youth sports. The City continuously works to expand and improve area parks to improve the quality of life for Princeton residents.

Lake Lavon is one of the largest lakes in Northern Texas, spanning 21,000 acres. The lake receives approximately four million visitors each year and offers an abundance of activities, with 17 parks located along its shores.

Five parks are located in the Princeton region and are popular spots for fishing, boating, swimming, watersports, and more.

Located south of Princeton, Tickey Creek Park offers a beach area with a dedicated swim area, picnic tables, and a boat ramp.

A multi-use park featuring campsites and RV sites, Clear Lake Park offers fun for the entire family with camping, watersports, boating, playground, boat ramp, fire pits/grills, picnic table, and pavilion. Clear Lake Park is located south of Princeton.

Located at the lake’s northern tip, Sister Grove Park is a quiet, secluded park with two three-mile trail routes that are part of the Dallas Off-Road Bicycle Association. The park is popular with bikers and hikers and known to have occasional wildflowers and wildlife, making it a popular destination for nature and wedding photography.

Feature timber-dominated waters and are excellent fishing spots for smaller boats and kayaks.

Originally created as a migrant camp and then converted into a WW II POW Camp, this city park now features sports fields for baseball, softball, and soccer, a basketball court, a disc golf course, pavilions, BBQ pits, a picnic/camping area, playground, solar-lit walking trail, and dog park.

Located across from the police department, Veterans Memorial Park was created by a beautification committee formed through the Noino Study Club. The park was built by

German POWs in memory of those who served in WWII. The park features picnic tables and benches.

This family-centric park has a variety of playground equipment, including swing sets, slides, jungle gyms, and a basketball half-court. It also has a pavilion, grill, and restrooms.

Parks Bond Projects

The City of Princeton and its residents have long envisioned a future where parks and public spaces serve as the heart of the community, providing residents with vibrant, one-of-a-kind, well-maintained areas for recreation, relaxation, and social interaction.

In November 2023, Princeton residents voted in overwhelming favor of a $109 million bond to transform Princeton's parks infrastructure. Through this bond program, the City of Princeton has identified the following four goals.

Expanding Green Spaces for a Growing Community

Princeton's rapid growth demands expanded parks and recreational facilities. The Parks Bond will fund new spaces and amenities that promote active lifestyles, recreation, and community connections for our growing population.

Building Iconic Community Spaces

Beyond traditional parks, the bond will also fund the creation of new, iconic community gathering spaces. Plans also include a multi-generational facility to provide programming to youth, teens, and seniors alike. We hope these projects will inspire a sense of pride in Princeton, elevating it as a regional destination for leisure and recreation.

Enhancing Existing Parks and Recreational Facilities

One of the primary goals of the bond is to enhance our existing parks, upgrade these facilities to meet modern standards, and improve the overall user experience. This includes constructing new sports fields, playgrounds, and splash pads.

A Lasting Legacy for Future Generations

As we embark on this transformative journey, the $109 million bond represents not just an investment in infrastructure but an investment in the well-being of our residents. By listening to the community's desires for new and improved parks and recreation spaces and embracing innovation, the City is creating functional parks destined to become cherished landmarks for generations to come. These projects are poised to improve the quality of life for our residents and provide spaces that bring the people of Princeton together in meaningful ways.
