Big City Perks with Down-Home Living

The heart of Dallas is less than an hour’s drive from Princeton, affording residents the experience of big-city amenities with various museums ranging from the arts to science, the Dallas Zoo and aquarium, amusement and water parks, professional sporting events, and eclectic dining and nightlife.

Enjoy the Outdoors

In Princeton, there’s always something to do outdoors. From Lake Lavon to local parks, residents enjoy a variety of activities ranging from swimming, boating, and hiking to youth sports. The city continuously works to expand and improve area parks to improve the quality of life for Princeton residents. 

Lake Lavon is one of the largest lakes in Northern Texas, spanning 21,000 acres. The lake receives approximately 4 million visitors each year and offers an abundance of activities with 17 parks located along the shores that offer a variety of activities.

 Five parks are located in the Princeton region and are popular spots for fishing, boating, swimming, watersports, and more.

Located south of Princeton, Ticky Creek Park offers a beach area with a dedicated swim area, picnic tables, and a boat ramp.

A multi-use park featuring campsites and RV sites, Clear Lake Park offers fun for the entire family with camping, watersports, boating, playground, boat ramp, fire pits/grills, picnic table, and pavilion. Clear Lake Park is located south of Princeton. 

Located at the lake’s northern tip, Sister Grove Park is a quiet, secluded park with two three-mile trail routes that are part of the Dallas Off-Road Bicycle Association. The park is popular with bikers and hikers and known to have occasional wildflowers and wildlife, making it a popular destination for nature and wedding photography.

Feature timber-dominated waters and are excellent fishing spots for smaller boats and kayaks.

Originally created as a migrant camp and then converted into a WW II POW Camp, this city park now features sports fields for baseball, softball, and soccer, a basketball court, a disc golf course, pavilions, BBQ pits, a picnic/camping area, playground, solar-lit walking trail, and dog park. 

Located across from the police department, Veterans Memorial Park was created by a beautification committee formed through the Noino Study Club. The park was built by 

German POWs in memory of those who served in WWII. The park features picnic tables and benches.

This family-centric park is equipped with a variety of playground equipment, including swing sets, slides, jungle gyms, and a basketball half-court, along with a pavilion, grill, and restrooms.

JJ Book Park & Future Developments

The Princeton Community Development Corporation (PCDC) is an advocate of family time and is planning to construct more parks to get children to “unplug.”

The future JJ Book Park will consist of eight acres with amenities including a skate park and fishing pond and will also feature shade structures, restrooms, trails, and park furnishings.

Other future recreational projects include a Recreation Center, which may include a complete, modern indoor basketball court, an Olympic-style swimming pool, and other activity areas.  

Additional Princeton attractions and events, which are held throughout the year, offer a range of activities for residents, with shopping, dining, and nightlife.

Old Rooster Creek 

Just south of Princeton, the Old Rooster Creek Flea Market and Bazaar has a bit of something for the entire family with shopping, food, and fun. The establishment also holds events for the community and offers a number of other amenities, including wedding and party space, 10 am church service on Sundays with coffee and a fire, and an RV park.

Big Spray Brewing

A family-friendly brewpub, Big Spray Brewing offers a fun, water-skiing-themed atmosphere. The brewpub has a variety of unique, in-house brewed beers on tap and tasty small bites and entrees.

Local Princeton Events

To celebrate the onion industry, Princeton holds its annual Onion Festival, which benefits the Princeton Lions Club. The event includes sporting events, children's games and activities, raffles, food and craft vendors, classic cars, an auction, and a 5K race.

Held on the 3rd Saturday in October, the Fall Festival features arts and crafts, food, live music, kid’s costume contest, carnival games, pumpkin patch, bull riding, mutton busting, Battle of the Badges Blood Drive, and Taste of Princeton featuring local food vendors.

Held the Saturday before Easter, this event features the Easter Bunny and a fun scramble to collect toy-filled eggs and prizes.

This annual event is held on July 3rd and features live music, food vendors, arts and crafts, a kid’s zone, and a spectacular fireworks show. 

The city’s official tree lighting features an evening of community fellowship and Christmas spirit with the Toys for Tots toy drive.
